Philadelphia-based power pop quartet, The Bigness, is set to release “The Rest of the Sky,” the first song and video from their third album on October 19, 2018.

The Bigness was founded by wife/husband duo, Kristin Bigness and John Bueno. WXPN described their 2016 record, Time Traveler, as “a glorious pop record in the vein of Belly and 90s R.E.M…a radiant reflection on life and death.” They’ve worked with the prolific Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, The War on Drugs, Chris Forsyth and the Solar Motel Band), and recorded their third and upcoming record, What We Make, at The Headroom in Philadelphia (Hop Along) with Mark Watter (Lizdelise, Caroline Reese).

The lead single, “The Rest of the Sky,” is an infectious power pop anthem. Addictive hooks take center stage, layered on the drone of open chords. An out-of-control pace (inspired by Sugar’s “Tilted”) gives the feeling of running down a steep hill and knowing that there’s no stopping without falling down.

“The song is about reaching a point in life when you begin to feel comfortable—and you resent that comfort. It’s about the desperation that comes with trying to hold onto a passion that your everyday routine seems to be beating out of you,” says bassist and songwriter Stephen Maurer. The song’s namesake lyric concedes: “I’ve got the rest of the sky to waste my dreams on.”

The video, directed by Danny Gevirtz and produced by Danie Harris, takes this idea a step further. Gevirtz captures charming, intimate portraits of each band member, showing that even when the thing you love feels like it’s being shaken out of you violently, you can still find it in some corner of your life.

“The Rest of the Sky” is available on all major streaming/download services. The record release show for What We Make will be November 3, 2018, at Bourbon & Branch in Philadelphia with Adler Hall (Brooklyn) and Flat Mary Road (Philadelphia). Tour dates to follow.
